Bad Circumstances, Good Experience

About a month ago, my grandpa Hews fell and broke his hip. He was flown to Tucson where he developed multiple blood clots in his descending aorta and lungs. Things were very touch and go, but he needed surgery to repair his fracture, or he wouldn't walk again. The doctors where not very hopeful, saying that because of his age (83!), clotting issues, and condition of his heart, his chances for coming through were slim. We gathered together and decided to proceed with the surgery, as he would rather have some sort of quality of life than prolong his life, and left it all in Heavenly Father's hands. Amazingly he made it through surgery, but then developed and intestinal infection. He spent about 2 weeks in the hospital before he was transfered to a rehab facility... He got discharged yesterday! This experience re-affirmed for me that we all have a plan for our lives, and our days are numbered before we set foot on this earth. We'll go home when the Lord is ready for us.

The whole time Papa has been down here, my sweet grandma has been by his side. She is a great example of a wife, mother, and the matriarch of her family. Through most of this, I have got the pleasure of having her in my home. I know she thinks she was a burden, but she absoulutely was NOT! I loved getting to see her everyday. I loved that my girls got to spend so much time with her. Kelsie even warmed up to her, which is amazing. I know that the circumstances surrounding her visit were anything but ideal, but I am so grateful for the time I got with her. We miss her today.

If you want a good chuckle...

If you have ever lived or been to Utah, Mesa, or any other Mormon mecca, you will think this is hilarious.

This is like SO funny... and I have read a lot of blogs just like this...mine is probably walking a fine line...but I can handle the truth. I am an LDS SAHM, afterall... And I am seriously so blessed! *this is dripping with enthusiastic sarcasm*

No seriously, check it out:

Visiting Daddy at Work...

Believe it or not, we have only been to visit Levi at work 2 times, and the last time was at Christmas. Christmas of 07. So we were long over due for a visit, plus Levi forgot his bedding --- something necessary to life at the fire station for 24 hours. We took him his bedding and got to have a little adventure :) The girls think the fire trucks are sooo cool. Kelsie had been asking where Dad sleeps when he is gone at work, so she got to see his bed, and where he "lives" and I think that has helped with some of her seperation anxiety. A trip well worth it!

Back to School

Kennedie is officially a 1st Grader! School started on Monday, just in time. We were ready to get back into the "groove." The first morning was a little hectic so I just snapped a few pictures really quick so we wouldn't be late. They aren't the greatest.

Nervous smile on the ride to school:

Posing with Kelsie (notice her backpack, too:)

A super-cool rockstar shirt with a built-in vest for the first day

She ran out here, because this is where I took her picture last year, but the sun was too bright this year...

Just for comparison, this is LAST YEAR...look at how she has grown!! :(

Busy Mom of 3...

At one point in my life, probably when I just had Kennedie, I remember thinking how lame it was when a woman described herself as a "busy mom of (insert number of children here)." Like that said it all. And the higher the number the more interesting she was? How could that small description possibly tell you what you need to know about her? What did that say about how she spent her free time? Her hobbies? Well, that was when I had one child. That was when I had free time. And hobbies...

Okay, okay, I still have a little free time and a few hobbies, but I am desperately trying to use the whole "busy mom of 3" thing as an excuse as to why my blog has suffered. It has been pretty boring around here lately. But you know, I hate to have to remind you.... but.... I am a busy mom of 3! ;)

Sorry blog, I promise to try harder. And all you busy moms of 4, 5, 6 and more... I salute you! :)

-Sincerely,
The busy mom of 3
