It's hard to believe that little Kylar is a little over 3 weeks old today. Even harder to beleive if I was still pregnant I would have 3 more days to my due date. We are so fortunate that the only set back that we have experienced with the litte miss is Jaundice. Neither of my other girls had jaundice, but because of Kylar's bruising breaking down it flooded her system with red blood cells and her body could not process them, so she had to go back to the hospital at 3 days old. Her levels were quite high for a while. She spent 24 hours in the NICU under the Bili lights and then eventually went on phototherapy at home. It was incredibly hard for me to take her back to the hospital and leave her. But I am so grateful to have 3 healthy happy little girls!
Kennedie went with my mom the week after Kylar was born to Springerville for spring break. She had a great time playing with all the family and getting spoiled by both of her grandmas. Levi knew he wanted to pick her up at the end of the week and Kelsie, Kylar and I ended up tagging along. I really wanted my dad to get to meet the baby. It was good that I decided to go.
Now that we are all home and life has resumed, I say we are fairing fairly well. Kylar is a sweet, easygoing baby and sometimes I feel bad that I take advantage of that. She's a trooper. She puts up with a lot from us.
Kelsie has been having a rough adjustment. She is trying to get used to the idea that she is not the "baby" anymore and that she may have to wait a minute or two for me to meet her requests. At first she wanted nothing to do with Kylar. She ignored both her and I. Now that Levi is back at work she has regained her interest in us. And she won't leave Kylar alone. She pushes her swing way too fast, or unplugs it. She tries to shove the binky in her mouth when she is sleeping. She covers her with stuffed animals... I can't get mad at her, because she really is doing these things in the spirit of love, but she's driving me crazy!!I have to put her in the shower with me, or lock the baby in her room so that she won't bother her when I take a shower, or have to do something. She has also figured out that when I am nursing the baby, I am a bit tied down and not keeping my eyes on her as well. That gives her the opportunity to get into all the things that she knows she's not allowed. I never know what I am in for at the end of a feeding. A whole tub of baby wipes sprawled across her room? The container of flour dumped out on the pantry floor? The whole roll of toilet paper in the toilet? All the DVDs/books/CDs thrown off the shelves?
It is getting better everyday, but right now, it's...ummm...fun?
Kennedie is in love with her new sister. She begs to hold her from the minute she wakes up until she goes to bed. She is loving being the oldest, and getting all the privledges that come along with it. She is so cute.
Poor Levi is a little more domesticated than he'd like to be these days. He has done a lot of the daily chores, the shopping, and the care for the older 2. He was amazing when we first came home from the hospital. He had the house clean, laundry done, and he even went to the store, and then cooked some wonderful meals. He was going stir crazy (he was off for 12 days--which is a record for him) and so he organized drawers in the kitchen, the medicine cabinet, and closets. He totally made me look like a bad housekeeper. I think he finally understands why all the little things (like him leaving empty hangers in his closet or his shoes out) annoy me so bad. He was getting a little annoyed with me leaving things on the bathroom counter... Ha ha. I am glad he has been so great. Everyone is happier when he is home. He was ready to get back to work, though.
I am doing pretty well. Feeling good and just anxious to find and perfect a new routine and sense of normal. Loving every minute I get to spend cuddling my new warm, sweet-smelling, beautiful little baby. Enjoying silly conversations with a curious 2 year-old. And laughing with my awesome Kindergartener, getting bigger and more mature everyday. I am one lucky mamma!
